Nair has scored 1496 runs in 76 IPL matches for Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals), Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and RCB over the years. LSG will be the third franchise he will play for in three seasons.
Nair and Rahul have been long-time teammates in the Karnataka team in India’s domestic circuit.
“Absolutely gutted,” Rahul wrote in an Instagram post on Friday morning as he announced he would be out of action for the coming few months.
“My focus in the coming weeks will be on my rehabilitation and recovery,” Rahul’s post said. “This is a difficult decision, but I know it is the right decision to ensure a full recovery.”
Rahul got injured in his right thigh while chasing a ball in the second over of the match against RCB. At that point he had to be helped off the field and did not return until the chase of 127 had become tense. He came out to bat at number 11 in the hope of winning the game. But he was unable to run between the wickets, resulting in No. 9 Amit Mishra facing the last over. LSG eventually lost by 18 runs.
“The last few days have been really tough, but I’m determined to come out on top. Injuries never make it easy, but I’ll give it my all as always.”
