IPL 2023 – Rohit Sharma – ‘Now there is no role of anchor in T20 cricket’

Captain of India and Mumbai Indians Rohit Sharma He believes that T20 cricket has changed and anchors no longer have any role in this format. Next, he is exploring what else he can do as a batsman in the format. Rohit said that although power-hitting may never be his forte, as a batsman he wants to do things “differently” now without worrying too much about the results.

Rohit said, “As I see it, there is no role for the anchor anymore. This is how T20 cricket is played these days, unless you score 20 runs at 3 or 4, which is not going to happen every day. ” “Occasionally, you will be in that situation and then someone needs to carry the innings and finish it to a good score. (But) there is no role of anchor now, people are playing differently.”

Rohit said that he feels that a change in mindset is inevitable. “If you don’t change your mindset, you will be ruined,” he told Geo Cinema. “People on the other side are thinking about the game differently and taking it to the next level.

“All seven batsmen need to play their part, I believe if you score a good score, it is good, but if you score a good 30-40 off just 10-15 or 20 balls It’s just as good because you’re playing a role for the team. The game has changed.”

Rohit said that he has played T20 cricket for so long that he can try new things without worrying about failure. “I just want to play that way and see what I can do. I’ve played this format for a long time and in a certain way. But I want to do different things now. While doing that, (if ) I get out, (it) doesn’t really bother me.

“if you see, in chennai and before that in mohali, I was out on zero. In the third game, against rcb, I stepped on the first ball. I felt like I had failed three times in as many attempts but that’s okay, this is what I’m going to do.”

But, he said, he cannot switch to all-out power-hitting as others are doing, and he would prefer to score runs his own way.

“But my thinking is that if I am getting a six after 65-70 metres, I only need to hit a six till 80 metres. Why do I need to hit a six till 100 metres? When you will allow eight runs for that So I will do that.

“I will hit 80 meters only because I get six runs for it and for that I need to time the ball. I don’t need to mash the ball like other guys – that’s their strength. My strength is to time the ball. The goal is to get the ball in the middle of the bat, which is what we call the sweet spot.”

Rohit offered teammate to Mumbai Indians and India Suryakumar Yadav For example, this type of batting brings a lot of success. “Look at Surya; he is not hitting big shots. He can also hit 100 meters but his thinking is also like mine.”

Rohit says Tilak Verma and Nehal Wadhera will be big stars

Rohit, whose Mumbai team is looking for its sixth IPL title, said that they have been given the tag of a superstar team but the franchise will have to work for it.

“Yes, it is a superstar team, but that is because the franchise has worked for it. All these players are part of the big auction pool – we have bought them.”

“Our team of scouts worked day and night to get this Jasprit Bumrah And Akshar Patel Here from Ahmedabad. Heartfelt (Pandya) and Krunal (Pandya) was spotted in 2015 and we brought him here. We have worked hard for this. It was a five-year journey from 2015-2020.”

Among the current players, Rohit received special praise Tilak Verma And Nehal VadheraWhom he said would be “big stars” not only for Mumbai Indians but also for India.

“What has happened with Bumrah, Hardik and all these guys, the same story is going to happen. Tilak Verma and Nehal Wadhera… you will see the next two years. But then people will say ‘this is a superstar team’. Yes, it is , we are making them here. These two guys are going to be huge stars for us and India.”
